Our Process

How It Works

We’ve designed a clear process that keeps everything organized, efficient, and easy to understand—from your first conversation to final delivery.

The Container Home Building Process

Our container homes follow a streamlined building process that combines planning, factory construction, and on-site installation. By completing most of the work in a controlled manufacturing environment, we can improve build quality and reduce the delays often associated with traditional construction.

This Streamlined Process Allows For:
  • A factory construction time of only 8–12 weeks
  • Delivery and installation in 1–3 days

Our Process

Understand Your Needs

01 Understand Your Needs

Every project begins with a conversation about your goals.

We start by learning how you plan to use the space and where the home will be located. This helps us determine the right model, layout, and approach for your property.

During this stage we discuss:

• Intended use (ADU, guest house, rental unit, office, etc.)
• Property location and site conditions
• Size and layout preferences
• Budget and timeline expectations

Zoning & Site Review

02 Zoning & Site Review

Next, we review zoning and site considerations to confirm the project is feasible.

Local building regulations, placement requirements, and permitting processes vary by location. Addressing these early helps prevent delays and ensures the project can move forward smoothly.

This step may include reviewing:

• Local zoning regulations
• Placement options on your property
• Utility access (power, water, and waste)
• Site preparation requirements

Design & Planning

03 Design & Planning

Once the site requirements are understood, we finalize your finish selections. Every ContainerSolutions home ships with the same high-quality structure and systems — this stage is where you make it yours.

Typical design decisions include:

  • Flooring and interior finishes
  • Cabinet color and hardware
  • Paint colors

04 Factory Build

Your container home is then constructed in a controlled factory environment.

Building off-site allows for better quality control and faster construction compared to traditional on-site building methods. Structural modifications, insulation, interior finishes, and system installations are completed before delivery.

Because most of the work happens in the factory, on-site construction time is significantly reduced.

05 Delivery & Installation

Once the container home is complete, it is transported to your property.

Our team coordinates delivery and placement to ensure the unit is properly installed on the prepared site. Depending on the project, this step may include:

• Delivery and crane placement
• Mounting the unit on its foundation
• Utility connections
• Final exterior adjustments

Because the home arrives largely finished, installation is typically completed quickly.

Check In & Handover

06 Check In & Handover

After installation, we conduct a final walkthrough.

We review the completed home with you, confirm that all systems are functioning properly, and answer any questions about operation or maintenance.

The goal is to ensure everything is ready for immediate use and that the finished home meets expectations.

Typical Project Timeline

Every project is unique, but ContainerSolutions homes are completed significantly faster than traditional construction. Because our homes are built in a controlled factory environment, we avoid weather delays and site-built complications.
Typical timelines include:
  • Planning and Design: (2–4 weeks) Finalizing your floor plan and interior specifications.
  • Factory Construction: (8–12 weeks) Your home is built and inspected to RI state standards by NTA.
  • Delivery and Installation: (1–3 days)The finished home is permanently secured to your foundation.
  • Total Project Duration: (3–5 months) This includes the time for local permitting and site preparation.
The CS Advantage:

A traditional stick-built home or ADU in New England averages 12–13+ months from permit to occupancy (U.S. Census Bureau / NAHB, 2024). Our factory-built process can save you over half a year of construction time.

Actual timelines may vary depending on local permitting speeds, site complexity, and chosen customizations.
